**Piper, Henry E. (Harry), 1859-1906:
Flower and bird painter, son of Enoch (q.v.), born in Madeley, Shropshire, first employed at Coalport then at Doulton painting flowers. Henry created the Doulton rose, which he painted on dessert plates that were exhibited at the World's Columbian Exposition, Chicago, of 1893. His work was in great demand, particularly by the famous retail house of Tiffany's of New York. His death at the age of forty-seven was a great loss to the industry.
